Sophos Serial Port Configuration - Putty Speed Parameters

Overview

HyperTerminal is a Windows-based terminal emulator connecting to systems through TCP/IP Networks, Dial-Up Modems, and COM ports. It can be used to connect to Sophos Firewall through a Serial Console Port. This article explains how to set up a Serial connection with the Sophos Firewall if you are using HyperTerminal, but these same settings can be applied to other terminal emulators.

Prerequisites

  • A console cable (cable having a nine-pin DB, supplied with the device)
  • HyperTerminal Program
    • For PCs below Windows 7, present by default.
    • For PCs with Windows 7 onwards, download/purchase it from the internet.

How to create a Serial Port connection

Follow the steps below to connect Sophos Firewall using the serial cable:

  1. Physically connect one end of the RJ45-DB9 cable to the console port on your Sophos Firewall and the other end to the PC’s serial port.
